If Pinocchio says “my nose is growing now!”, a paradox arises. If his nose grows, he is telling the truth — and the nose can no longer grow. If it doesn’t grow, he is lying — and it has to grow.

WALK Dance Company and Undergrünnen present, in this dance performance with live music, theatre’s own paradox: when an audience willingly and voluntarily takes their seats, can they really be suggested to, influenced from outside, without being aware of it?
Pinocchio-Paradokset is just as much a rock concert as a dance performance — high energy, big movements, and an unmistakable joy in motion.
Five musicians and five dancers share a stage dressed from floor to ceiling in Persian rugs. They play and dance, shout and sweat — in a high-energy performance many would call suggestive.
Can you be influenced involuntarily?
Because suggestion is something that happens involuntarily, the work pursues a small, persistent puzzle — named after the wooden puppet Pinocchio.
Explosive stage energy
In suits and ties and 1920s-inspired hairstyles, the five dancers chase each other across the stage in large, explosive movements.
The energy is pushed further by the band Undergrünnen, with guitarist and vocalist Pål Jackman acting as a kind of concert master. With their raw stage presence and well-honed concert form, Undergrünnen serves up a blend of 1960s psychedelia, afrobeat, jazz, rock and minimalist new wave.
The sum is an explosion of rock’s dirty energy and dance’s pure desire to move. Will you let yourself be swept up?
