It started with a studio, a shared curiosity, and far too little sleep.
William Boo, Albin Lindén, Ludvig Herstad and Kristian Vindenes met at the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo – and quickly found their way to the studio outside of class. A place where they could explore the craft on their own terms, trade ideas, and follow whatever thread felt interesting that day. They called it the playground. No curriculum. No agenda. Just movement and the freedom to figure things out together.
Then came a competition. They had an idea, they entered – and somewhere between rehearsals and a cramped student apartment, a party was interrupted by an email: they needed to submit a name. That’s how WALK was born in 2016. The company has been active ever since.
William, Albin, Ludvig and Kristian serve as the artistic directors of WALK, but the company is never quite the same twice. Each project brings its own constellation of performers and collaborators – a shifting ensemble built around the needs of the work.
WALK is a project-based company. Performances, commissions, collaborations – everything takes its own shape. The only constant: musicality, physicality, and the belief that movement can hold a story worth telling.

The Elephant. Remembers every count, every correction, and the version of the phrase everyone agreed to drop three weeks ago. Never forgets a step — delightful, unless you were quietly hoping the room had. Moves with far more lightness than an animal that size has any right to.
The Owl. Sits perfectly still through an entire phrase, rotates his head about 270 degrees further than seems advisable, then moves on a beat nobody else heard coming. Lands without making a sound, in a room where everyone else lands like furniture.
The Fox. Slips through a phrase sideways, finds the one exit nobody else noticed, and makes it look like the choreography was always heading there. Occasionally vanishes head-first into deep snow and comes back out holding an entire piece.
The Otter. Spends most of the piece on the floor and all of it in motion — rolling, sliding, upside down, back up, gone again. Generates roughly forty new ideas an hour and has started the next one before anyone has answered about the last. Cannot be left unsupervised near a smooth floor.
